(Verona, NY) Fred “Fritz” Scherz, Jr. from Verona, NY, candidate for Councilman on the Verona Town Board, recently received another confirmation from the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) in Washington, D.C., that he is not subject to the restrictions of the Hatch Act.
“Earlier this year, when I decided to run for Councilman on the Verona Town Board, because of my day job with New York State government, I knew I needed to obtain an advisory opinion from the OSC regarding the Hatch Act,” said Scherz. “So, I filed the required paperwork and awaited the decision. Thankfully, on May 15th, I received confirmation from the OSC that I was not subject to the Hatch Act’s restrictions.
However, despite that confirmation from the OSC, just recently someone filed a complaint with the OSC alleging that I was in violation of the Hatch Act by running for Councilman. I’m pleased to announce that once again, OSC has not only reaffirmed that I am NOT subject to the restrictions of the Hatch Act, they’ve also closed the file in this matter. Now that this has been finally put to rest, and there are no restrictions on my candidacy, I’m hopeful to earn the vote of Town of Verona residents on Election Day (November 3rd). I would be honored to be a Councilman on the Verona Town Board.”
