Fritz’s Polka Band Garners Nominations in International Music Contest

Fritz’s Polka Band Garners Nominations in International Music Contest thumbnail

Jagermeister-sponsored, Fritz’s Polka Band (FPB) from Verona, NY, has been nominated for the 2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards by the Just Plain Folks Music Organization (JPFMO).  After receiving over 42,000 albums and 560,000 songs from 160 countries, the JPFMO announced the nominations for Best Song in 80 Genres and Best Album in 93 categories.

FPB has two songs (Grandparents Polka and It Doesn’t Matter from their “Live at the New York State Fair” CD) in the Best Polka Song category, which contains only 18 other songs.  In addition, FPB has their “Live at the New York State Fair” CD nominated in the Best Polka Album category, which contains only nine other album nominations.

“The guys in FPB are excited by these nominations,” said Fritz Scherz, band leader of Fritz’s Polka Band.  “It’s a complete surprise, especially given the level of competition and the sheer number of entries that were submitted.  We had hoped we might get one nomination, but to get three is great!  We owe a huge thanks to the legion of fans we’ve made over the years, all the people in the FPB Fan Club, as well as our great sponsor, Jagermeister.  Plus, a special thanks to all of the media and music critics that have been so great to us!”

Fritz’s Polka Band has been performing for over 30 years, and made history in 1999, when they became the first polka band to perform at a Woodstock Festival in Rome, NY.  On September 15, 2007, FPB made history again by becoming the first polka band to perform at the Metropolitan Club in New York City.

FPB has made 16 recordings. FPB even appears on “The Manchurian Candidate” DVD which was released in July 2004.  FPB previously won a Just Plain Folks Music Award in the Best Polka Song category for Bialczak’s Polka on November 4, 2006.  In November 2008, FPB won an Upper State Independent Award in Syracuse, NY, in the International Category.  Just a few weeks ago, Fritz’s Polka Band won their first ever Syracuse Area Music Award (SAMMY) in the Best Recording: Other Styles category.

For more details, all nominations are posted on the Just Plain Folks website found at www.JPFolks.com.  The winners will be announced at the Just Plain Folks Music Awards Show on Saturday, August 29th, 2009 at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville TN.
