(Utica, NY – Nov. 24, 2009) It was a great start to the holidays for some area children.  United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica added a bit of extra warmth with the delivery of plush winter coats to school principals at General William Floyd Elementary in Stittville, Donovan Middle School and Watson Williams Elementary in Utica.

Each received a load of overcoats which they will distribute to children in need at their respective schools.

“This is a great way to start the holidays, and we are delighted the coats were gifted before the start of colder weather”, said United Way Executive Director Phil Hayne.

More than 100 coats were donated to United Way by Herb Philipson’s to help area children and for use as an added incentive for the United Way telethon held in October.

Donors who contributed $100 were able to have a coat given to a child with a gift tag personalized with the donor’s name.  Coat deliveries were previously made to Remington School in Ilion, JTCOD and Martin Luther King School in Utica.

    To whom it may concern,

This year is tuff have no income and I had gone to Social services and applied for Temporary Assistance in which is taking forever for my son and I. The Employment division(Paul Building) had told me that I’m unable to work due to Mental Health issues so they couldn’t help me find a job etc…

My son and I have relieved food stamps so we are never hungry, but as for clothes hygiene products etc.. we have NOTHING. My soon to be six year old so who attends Kernan School only owns one pair of jeans and and 2 sweat pants and three shirts one long sleeve. So you see I don’t need anything I just want my son to be happy and confident. He is very smart and see’s what’s going on in which is affecting his emotional stability in and outside the home, especially at school.

Please if anyone can help this would be a miracle for me and especially for my boy.

    Thank You,

    Darlene Teti
