(Utica, NY) On Saturday, December 12th thousands of animals will be flying through the air at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. No, the circus is not back in town; it’s the New York Sash Teddy Bear Toss Night at Utica College Men’s Hockey versus Castleton State. Everyone who brings a stuffed animal to the game will get in for free and when Utica College scores their first goal, fans are asked to throw the teddy bears onto the ice. All toys collected go towards the New York Sash Toy Drive.
In its fourth year, Teddy Bear Toss Night has become one of the fans’ most anticipated games of the season. Last year over 2,200 stuffed animals were collected.
New York Sash owner Scot Hayes organizes the event and calls it “a success every year. It’s amazing to witness and be a part of the experience as thousands of stuffed animals are thrown. It really shows the generosity of people in the Mohawk Valley.”
The Teddy Bear Toss ends the week long New York Sash Toy Drive, happening December 7th to 11th.
“Our goal this year is to collect 10,000 toys for local families,” said Hayes, who stresses the importance of keeping the toys in the Greater Utica area. All toys collected go to four local charity campaigns as well as individual families in need.
Be sure to check out the Teddy Bear Toss Night as Utica College Men’s Hockey takes on Castleton State Saturday, December 12th at 7pm. Don’t forget your teddy bear!
