Judge Siegel Appointed Chairperson of Medical Center Board of Trustees thumbnail

(Utica, NY) Sister M. Johanna, OSF, President/CEO of St. Elizabeth Medical Center, has announced the appointment by the Sisters of St. Francis of Judge Norman I. Siegel as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees.  “We are grateful to Judge Siegel for his commitment and leadership to the Medical Center and the community we serve,” said Sister Johanna.

Judge Siegel received his Juris Doctor Degree, cum laude, from the Albany Law School and his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Colgate University.  He was a member of the Albany Law Review and Justinian Society.

Judge Siegel has 42 years of legal experience.  He was appointed to the New York State Court of Claims in June 2000.  He has served as the Oneida County Attorney, was appointed by the Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division of the Fourth Department to the Character and Fitness Committee for the Fifth District in 1992, and served prior to that on the Fifth Judicial District Grievance Committee for many years.

Judge Siegel’s goals/vision for the Board of Trustees include continuing the fine work of the Sisters of St. Francis, which has served this community for over 140 years.  He expects that the new Board, which is populated by more local community people, will maintain the mission of the Medical Center, while at the same time bring business, educational and civic experience to the Board, the Medical Center and the Community.

He has served on many community and civic organizations, such as the Utica College Board of Trustees and Executive Committee; Ronald McDonald Charities of Central New York; and as President of the Charles T. Sitrin Home.

Judge Siegel and his wife, Ann, reside in New Hartford.  They are the parents of three children and have six grandchildren.
