Historical Society to feature U.S. Spy Agency Program Oct. 31 thumbnail

(Utica, NY) “Honorable Treachery — America’s Spy Agencies” will be the topic of a talk by Ira B. Cooperman, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Center of Utica and the Jewish Community Federation of the Mohawk Valley, at the Oneida County Historical Society, 1608 Genesee St., Utica, at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31.

Cooperman, who served as an U.S. Air Force Intelligence Officer with liaison duties to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Security Agency (NSA) during the Vietnam War, is a frequent speaker on the subject of the U.S. Intelligence Community.  For the past five years, he has taught Special Studies classes on the subject at the Chautauqua Institution in Western NY, and also has served as a Guest Instructor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

For his talk on Oct. 31, he will engage the audience with unclassified information such as:

Which intelligence agency of the U.S. Government is the largest in size and budget?

How many intelligence agencies are there, and which have “spying” as their primary mission?

Compare the intelligence information that was developed during the Vietnam War, and the intelligence which American agencies believed was true before Iraq was invaded?

How has the collection of intelligence in the current era changed from how it was collected during World War II?

What are some of the major problems facing the U.S. Intelligence Community?  Some examples of intelligence failures and success.

Come to the Oneida County Historical Society building on October 31 to learn about this subject, which is so vital to the security of our nation!  Admission is $2.00.  Children ages 5 and under, and current historical society members, are free.  All exhibit galleries will remain open during this event.
