(Utica, NY) St. Elizabeth Medical Center, The American Venous Forum and Sanofi Aventis will sponsor a free screening for DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis).
The screening will be held on Wednesday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in the Cafeteria Private Dining Room on the first floor of the hospital.
DVT are blood clots in the veins. Blood can pool in the legs any time the activity in the legs is restricted, such as after an injury or surgery. This can lead to clots. Left untreated, these blood clots can break loose, move to the lungs and become Pulmonary Embolisms, which can be fatal.
Risk factors for developing DVT are advanced age, family or personal history, obesity and restricted mobility.
The DVT Screening consists of answering a simple health questionnaire. Based upon answers, individuals will speak with a healthcare professional on site who will determine their risk for developing DVT. You will be directed to speak to your private physician if any follow up is needed.
