Sylvan Beach: From Village Hall

Sylvan Beach: From Village Hall thumbnail

By Brandyann Phelps

On Oct. 5, the mayor and trustees for the village of Sylvan Beach met at 4 p.m. at village hall for a regular village meeting. The minutes from the Sept. 21 meeting were approved as presented and all department reports are on file with the village clerk.

Kelly Walters of Parkway Senior Center will hold a Flu Vaccination Clinic at the village hall on Election Day. To learn more about the Vote and Vax Clinic you can contact the village clerk.

Donald E. VanDresar Jr. is renewing the liquor license for the Sunset Grill.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation did an inspection on the East Oneida Lake Water Pollution Abatement Project (EOLWPAP). The facility was found to be in compliance with the conditions and requirements of the State Pollutant Discharge and Elimination Systems (SPDES) Permit.

The Beach Replenishment Project continues to move forward. All the necessary permits have been obtained and the village has applied for a grant. If the grant is received the project could be completed in as little as two seasons, otherwise it could take 5 to 10 years.

The annual permit window for performing the restoration is Sept. 15 to “ice in” and then “ice out” to May 15. The proposal for 2009 is to construct the Cove Road entrance in the town of Verona to obtain the sand, partially fill the area from the bathhouse to 400 feet north and partially fill the area from 17th Avenue and 600 feet north.

The total volume of sand required to complete the project is approximately 57,000 cubic yards. The sand will be tested for contaminants each 10,000 cubic yards. A survey will be done each year to track progress.

The next regular meeting for the village of Sylvan Beach is scheduled for Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
