Area Artists Donate Work for Sherrill-Kenwood Library

(Sherrill, NY) Local artists are offering their talents to help out the Sherrill-Kenwood Free Library, a venue that gives them a regular place to show their work.

The library has a wall dedicated to exhibits of local artwork, allowing area artists and crafters the chance to display their talents for month-long showings — and sometimes longer — at no charge. Now, many of those artists are returning the favor with donations for their third fundraising art raffle, with proceeds to benefit the library’s operating expenses.

Library director Bonnie Unsworth said the raffle features the work from some 20 local artists. Art and craft items are on display now and throughout the month, giving visitors the opportunity to find favorites and buy raffle tickets for individual pieces. Raffle tickets are $3 each or four for $10 and are available now through their gala Artists Reception and Art Raffle event Oct. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. where winners will be announced.

“This is a great way for the artists to get exposure, plus a way for them to give something back to the library and the community,” Unsworth said.

Local artists John Barron and Don Cornue agreed.

“I’m doing this just to be a part of the community,” said woodcarver Barron. “I like having the library and this is a way I can show my appreciation for what they do.”

“I think the library is an important asset to the city — it’s good to have a library nearby,” agreed painter Cornue.
