(Verona, NY - October 23, 2009) – Oneida-based state police arrested John E. Greany, age 23, of West Wright Street, Rome for Criminal Impersonation 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree after a traffic stop on State Route 365 in the Town of Verona around 10:00 a.m. Friday morning.
Greany was stopped for having an expired inspection sticker on his vehicle and gave Trooper George Cameron an incorrect name in an attempt to hide the fact that he had a suspended driver’s license. However, the person that Greany was impersonating also had a suspended driver’s license and he was taken into custody. After being taken onto custody, Greany was found to possess a crack pipe with drug residue.
Greany was processed at the SP Oneida barracks and during the processing; he confessed to using a false name.
Greany was released with appearance tickets returnable in the Town of Verona Court.
