Rome Salvation Army Down 30% in Red Kettle Campaign; Lack of Outside Bellringers Part of Reason
(Rome, NY) The Salvation Army and nationally syndicated consumer advocate Clark Howard are teaming up to brighten the holidays for impoverished families struggling to rebuild their lives.
Howard says he is encouraging listeners to support The Salvation Army’s holiday fundraising efforts through online monetary donations at clarkhoward.com. Donors can visit clarkhoward.com through Dec. 31 to make a donation and get stories and updates on “Clark’s Christmas Kids” campaign.
“The Salvation Army is well-known for its responsible stewardship of your money,” Howard adds, “and our listeners should be comforted in knowing that 100% of the funds raised will go to The Salvation Army to help children in need throughout the country.”
Major Leonard Boynton, director of The Salvation Army in Rome, says the Army is excited about partnering with Clark Howard to help provide toys and clothing for needy children. “We’re seeing an increase in the number of families needing assistance,” he says.
Last year, Clark’s Christmas Kids campaign raised $80,000, which helped The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program provide new toys and clothing for thousands of children in need.
The Clark Howard Show airs live Monday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. In New York State, the radio show airs at various times on WAUB 1590 in Auburn, WTBQ 1110 in Florida/Warwick, WGVA 1240 in Geneva, WHCU 870 in Ithaca, WEAV 960 in Plattsburgh, WIBX 950 in Utica/Rome, and WATN 1240 in Watertown.
In the meantime, the Red Kettle campaign in Rome is down 30% compared to last year at this time, said Major Boynton. “If we had bellringers who would be willing to ring outside, maybe we could close this gap.”
Anyone interested in helping to ring can call 336-4260 or The Red Kettle Center (24/7) at 1-877-764-7259. They may also register on-line at RedKettles.org. Tax-deductible donations can also be made on-line at onlineredkettle.org. Designate The Salvation Army of Rome as the recipient.
