(Rome, NY) Assemblywoman RoAnn M. Destito (D/WF-Rome) issued the following statement regarding the death of New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) employee Gary Farrell of Holland Patent, who was struck and killed by a pick-up truck while directing traffic in a marked work zone along State Route 28 in the Town of Forestport.
“I would like to send my deepest condolences to the family, co-workers, and friends of Gary Farrell, who died in this very unfortunate workplace accident. It is very important for all of us who drive here in New York State to remember that even though summer is the busiest season for construction work, many projects continue well into the fall and winter months, and often are being done at night in an effort to avoid traffic congestion. All of us need to be aware of the posted speed limits in marked work zones, and to travel at a speed that is safe for existing conditions. The DOT advises drivers in New York to keep a safe distance behind vehicles while traveling through a work area, and to remain observant of any activities taking place in these zones.”
