Cornell Cooperative Extension to Host Educational Seminar on Public Health Insurance, Risk Management

Cornell Cooperative Extension to Host Educational Seminar on Public Health Insurance, Risk Management thumbnail

(Oriskany, NY) Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County will host an educational seminar by Agri-Services Agency (ASA) on Tuesday, October 6 from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. The seminar will include information about public health insurance programs and risk management for farmers and agribusinesses.

ASA, a subsidiary of Dairylea Cooperative Inc., was recently awarded a grant by the New York State Health Foundation (NYSHealth) to help farmers and agribusiness owners obtain health insurance coverage. Access to quality, affordable health care is a critical need for farmers and agribusinesses in New York State. In fact, a recent survey by the nonprofit Access Project says farmers pay twice as much as non-farmers for insurance and out-of-pocket expenses. As a result they constitute a substantial portion of the state’s uninsured.

ASA was created over 40 years ago to bring affordable insurance programs to farmers and other agribusiness owners.  The programs are underwritten by national insurance carriers offering comprehensive coverage to the agricultural community throughout the Northeast.  ASA understands agriculture, having helped thousands of farmers and related business owners with their benefits programs for more than 40 years.

For more information on this and other programs for farmers and agri-business contact Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County at 315/736-3394, ask for Ag-Department staff.
