Record Number of Freshmen Headed to Burrstone Campus

UTICA, N.Y. –  Utica College is set to welcome students back for the fall 2009 semester.  Sunday, Aug. 30 is move-in day for students living in the residence halls and on Monday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m., convocation will be held in the Harold T. Clark Jr. Athletic Center followed by the traditional All-College Barbeque in the academic quad, weather permitting.

This year, UC welcomes 580 new freshman students – its highest number of entering freshmen ever – and 200 transfer students.

Alumnus Mark Pilipczuk ’88 will deliver the convocation address at the 2009 ceremony. Pilipczuk graduated cum laude from UC with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and earned his master’s degree in marketing and product marketing management from Pace University in 1990. He is vice president of marketing services for Neustar, an innovative company that creates new, faster ways to integrate competing communication networks across the globe.

Pilipczuk, formerly with AOL and a leader in the marketing world, shares a relevant issue with the incoming freshmen: learning to adapt to an ever-changing world. Pilipczuk will gear his speech toward UC’s campus theme for the 2009-2010 school year, “Preparing for the New Normal.”

“I’d like to convey a few of my experiences from UC and in my professional life that have helped me prepare for today’s normal,” he said. “I’d like to help the class of 2013 find their new normal. I’m excited and honored about the opportunity to [them] particularly because this year’s theme is relevant for today’s students as they enter Utica College.”

Classes begin on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
