(Verona, NY - November 18, 2009) On November 17 at approximately 10:15pm, State Police Unit 1D62 was responding to assist other Police units regarding a suicidal female at a hotel near the intersection of State Route 31 and State Route 365.
As state police unit 1D62, driven by Trooper John A. Vanlandingham, entered the intersection to turn left onto ST-365, a Chevrolet Impala, driven by 59 year-old, John K. Paul, from Rome, NY was heading northeast on ST -365 struck 1D62 in the middle of the intersection as the Trooper was making his turn.
Trooper Vanlandingham was transported via ambulance to ST- Elizabeth’s where he was treated and released for a separated shoulder and large contusion around his right eye. The driver of the Chevrolet Impala, Mr. Paul was treated at the scene for a complaint of pain to his chest.
State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and is continuing their investigation at this hour.
