(Vernon, NY – Feb. 3, 2012) State Police in Oneida investigated a three car personal injury accident on State Route 5 between Hawthorne Drive and Youngs Road in the Town of Vernon, which occurred at approximately 3:42 p.m. Feb. 1.

Beatrice H. Jones, 79, of Route 5, Vernon was driving her 2008 Chevrolet eastbound on State Route 5 followed by a 2005 Toyota Prius operated by Alex P. Dudajek, 87, of Clinton Street, New York Mills when Jones stopped to allow oncoming traffic to pass before making a left turn into her driveway.

Dudajek failed to observe the Jones vehicle stopped in the eastbound lane and struck the Jones vehicle in the rear. The force of the impact caused the Jones vehicle to enter the westbound lane of Route 5 and into the path of a westbound 2008 Ford van operated by Joseph F. Verro, 60, of Center Street, Canastota. The Verro vehicle struck the Jones vehicle and travelled off the north side of the roadway, where it overturned onto its roof in a ditch.

Beatrice Jones was trapped inside of her vehicle and had to be extricated by members of the Vernon Fire Department using hydraulic tools.

Jones was transported by Vineall Ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Trauma Center in Utica, where she was treated for broken bones and internal injuries.

Dudajek complained of chest pain at the scene and was transported by private vehicle to Faxton Hospital in Utica for treatment.

A passenger in the Verro vehicle, David P. Hart, 55, was treated at the scene for lacerations to his hand and transported by private vehicle to Oneida Healthcare for further evaluation.

Alex Dudajek was issued a traffic ticket for speed not reasonable and prudent returnable in the Town of Vernon Court on Feb. 15, 2012.

(Sherrill, NY – Jan. 14, 2012) Oneida based state police investigated a one car personal injury motor vehicle accident Tuesday evening, Jan. 10 that sent three people to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 7:28 p.m., a 2004 Dodge operated by Trevor J. Pratt, 21, of Miller Street in Utica was travelling westbound on Highbridge Road in the Town of Vernon at an unsafe speed when the vehicle slid counter-clockwise while rounding a left hand curve and exited the south side of the roadway, striking a tree.

Pratt and his 18-year-old passengers, Alyssa N. Carone of Huntington Place, New Hartford and Gabrielle M. Koviacs of West Main Street, Westmoreland, were extricated from the vehicle by firefighters from the Sherrill Fire Department and transported to St. Elizabeth’s Trauma Center in Utica by Vineall Ambulance.

The investigation by Trooper Miles Robertson revealed the Pratt vehicle had inadequate tread on all four tires and a witness to the accident stated the vehicle appeared to be travelling well above the posted 35 mile per hour speed limit prior to the crash.

Pratt was issued traffic tickets for Unsafe Speed, Inadequate Tires and Failure to Keep Right and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Vernon Court.

(Vernon, NY – Dec. 30, 2011) A trooper dispatched to check on a disabled vehicle on Route 5 in the Town of Vernon Friday afternoon found the driver to be intoxicated and charged the 21 year old man with DWI.

A cell phone caller contacted Oneida County 911 at approximately 1:30 p.m. reporting a 2007 Audi stopped along the eastbound shoulder of Route 5 and advised that the operator appeared to be intoxicated. A trooper responded to find the driver Andrew M. Krasniak of Clinton was in fact intoxicated and had pulled to the shoulder after having mechanical problems with his vehicle.

Krasniak was processed at the SP Waterville station, where a breath test determined his blood alcohol content to be .10 percent. Krasniak was issued traffic tickets for driving while intoxicated and Driving with a BAC of .08 percent or more and is to appear in the Town of Vernon Court on Jan. 25, 2012.

Following the processing, Krasniak contacted a friend, Connor L. Martin, 23, of Clinton to pick him up at the Waterville station and it was discovered that Martin was wanted by the Village of Vernon Police on a bench warrant issued by the Village of Vernon Court for failing to appear on a violation of a village ordinance. Martin was arrested and turned over to the Vernon Police Department.

On Monday, Nov. 21, the boxes will be transported to the Operation Christmas Child processing center in Charlotte, NC where they are packed for overseas shipment. The gifts for boys and girls ages 2-14 are sent by ship and plane into more than 100 countries. Boxes go to new children each year. The relief and evangelical outreach is a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse led by Dr. Billy Graham’s son Franklin Graham.

In 2010, 8.18 million Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes were distributed around the world. More than 10,210 boxes were collected in Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida, Oswego, and Herkimer counties last year. For more information about how you can participate in Operation Christmas Child locally, contact volunteer Area Coordinator Patty Jennings at 315-232-2690 or pjennings21@yahoo.com. Information is also online at www.samaritanspurse.org/occ.
