The New York State Police in conjunction with the New York State Liquor Authority conducted ABC checks throughout Madison and Southern Oneida County’s on March 26, 2010. At the Old Stone Jug, 30 Utica St, Hamilton, NY 13346 there were violations noted by the New York State Liquor Authority and the investigation is still being conducted by their agency. The Hamilton PD did make an arrest for an underage drinking violation. Though there were no further arrests made.

Benefit for Travis Tabolt Planned

(Waterville, NY) Please join us at the Waterville American Legion, Route 20, East Sangerfield, April 17, from noon to 6 p.m. for a benefit for Travis Tabolt.

Travis received second and third degree burns, when a fire occurred at his automotive business. He is facing months of rehabilitation and has incurred astronomical medical expenses.

The event features food, music, door prizes, a Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle.

Come show your support for Travis.

Madison County Courier To Be Used As Movie Prop

M3P Media, LLC, has signed a release for its new publication, Madison County Courier, to be used as prop or set dressing for the highly anticipated movie “Knockout.”

“We are thrilled to be a very small part of a very big movie,” said Mike Bova, publisher of M3P Media, LLC.

According to promoters, the film stars mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano as Mallory Kane, a young, tough, beautiful freelance covert operative. She is hired out by her handler, Kenneth, to various global entities to perform jobs that governments can’t authorize and heads of state would rather not know about. For all her looks and youth, Mallory is still the best in her field, and her skills are in constant demand.

After a mission to rescue a hostage in Barcelona, Kenneth quickly dispatches Mallory on another mission to Dublin. There she partners with another operative, the suave and debonair Paul. When the operation goes awry and Mallory finds she has been double-crossed, she needs to use all of her skills, tricks and abilities to escape an international manhunt, make it back to the United States, protect her family and exact revenge on those that have betrayed her.

According to information on IMDb.com, producers have signed actors Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Ewen McGregor and Channing Tatum, to name a few.

Knockout, which is filming now, is being directed by Steven Soderbergh, who also directed “Erin Brockovich” and “Ocean’s Eleven.”

The movie is expected to be released sometime next year.

Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Certification Workshop Planned

(Sangerfield, NY) Cooperative Extension of Oneida County is co-sponsoring a workshop with Whites Farm Supply Inc. and Oneida County Farm Bureau for area farmers. The workshop will include discussions of some important topics including: potato leaf hopper resistant alfalfa varieties, feeding strategies for improved milk components, new herbicides, sprayer set-up and calibration and farm vehicle road inspection.

The workshop will be held at Whites Farm Supply in Sangerfield on Friday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. There will be approximately three (3) NYSDEC credits. There will also be CCA credits. Preregister by Feb 19 by calling Jeff or Mary at 841-4181.

United Way Celebration held today

(Utica, NY – Jan. 20, 2010) United Way invites the entire region to a community-wide celebration of the 2009 Campaign. The event will be held in the lobby of M &T Bank at 233 Genesee Street at 5:00 PM on Wednesday January 20. Attendees can park in the lot behind the building.

“This was a community-wide effort, and we want everyone to come and celebrate this remarkable achievement with us,” said John Hobika, Jr., the 2009 Campaign Chair.

The event kicks off at 5:00PM and includes great food, lots of recognition, music from Monk Rowe, and a special performance by Danceworks.

The event is open to the entire public and attendees can call 733-4691 ext 223 for reservations. The cost is $15 and can be paid at the door

DWI arrest after one-car PDAA in Town of Sangerfield

(Sangerfield, NY – Jan. 16, 2010) On Jan. 16 the State Police in Marcy investigated a 1-car property damage auto accident on State Route 20, in the Town of Sangerfield, County of Oneida, which resulted in a DWI arrest.

Investigation revealed that William G. Coffman, 60, of Waterville, was traveling westbound on State Route 20 in the Town of Sangerfield when he veered off the northern shoulder of the roadway and struck a snowbank causing minor damage to his vehicle.

Roadside tests showed Coffman to be impaired by alcohol and he was taken to SP Marcy where he provided a positive breath test which showed a BAC of .14%.

He was given tickets returnable to the Town of Sangerfield Court at a later date.

State Police investigate 1 Car Personal Injury Accident

State Police in Waterville investigated a 1-car personal injury auto accident that occurred on May 27, 2009 at approximately 8:45 A.M. in the area of 720 Beaver Creek Road in the Town of Sangerfield, Oneida County.

(Sangerfield, NY – May 27, 2009) – CRYSTAL M. WILCOX, age 22, of Brookfield, NY was traveling northwest on Beaver Creek Road when she failed to negotiate a left hand curve due to unsafe speed (too fast). WILCOX drove off the north shoulder at which point her vehicle, a 2009 Hyundai Accent, drove off the north shoulder of the roadway, struck a culvert and became airborne for approximately twenty feet. The vehicle landed and came to rest in a ditch.

WILCOX was transported by Waterville Area Ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in the Town of New Hartford where she was treated for a minor injury and released. Waterville Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

No tickets were issued.
