(Frankfort, NY) This weekend, the Utica Klubs rugby team will play host to teams throughout the state as they participate in the Great American Irish Festival, which will be held at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds in Frankfort. The festival commences on July 23 and continues throughout the weekend, and features Irish/Celtic musical acts, culinary fare, merchandise, and, of course, sporting events.

The Utica Klubs, which has participated in the festival for the last four years, feel that the sport of rugby is a perfect addition to the annual event.

“Both the men’s and ladies’ teams have many players of Irish descent, so we felt that the Great American Irish Festival was a great venue,” said Craig McNamara, a player for the Klubs. “And anyone can play. It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman, or what age you are, as long as you like fast-paced, dynamic sports.”

The Utica Hellbenders ladies’ team will start off the festival on Friday at 5 p.m., with a round robin tournament featuring their team, Saratoga and Saranac Lake. The men’s team will cap off the festival at 11 a.m. on Sunday, when the Utica teams go up against Binghamton, Syracuse, Saranac Lake and the CNY Old Boys.

And past rugby players who hung up their jersey a while ago but have been hoping to get back into the game are in luck – according to McNamara, there’s always room for more. “If you used to play, please feel free to bring your boots and your mouth guard, and we’ll be happy to find you a team.”

The Great American Irish Festival kicks off on Friday, July 23 at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds in Frankfort at 5 p.m. and goes until 11 p.m. Saturday hours are from noon to 11 p.m., and Sunday hours are noon to 5 p.m.

Frankfort, N.Y. – Girls in grades 6-8 will be attending the “Just Breathe” day camp session July 5-9 at Camp Agaliha at Sitrin in Frankfort.

The session is related to the Girl Scout Leadership Journey, Breathe, from the It’s Your Planet – Love It! series. The Breathe journey teaches girls about pollution, global warming, wind power, the ozone, and more. Through the journey girls become aware of everything going on around them on Earth, alert others of what’s going on, and affirm what they’ve learned. The camp session will teach girls to become experts on how to conserve and protect the earth’s air. The girls will learn about air pollution, create a plan to help reduce or solve the air issues in their communities, and do all types of experiments with air. The girls will also be able to participate in traditional camp activities like hiking, boating, and swimming.

Camp is open to Girl Scouts and potential Girl Scouts. The cost to attend the week-long day camp session is $210 and financial assistance is available. For more information on this or the many other camp adventures for girls entering 2-12 in the fall, visit www.gsnypenn.org.

Join the fun and friendship of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Contact the New Hartford Service Center at (315) 733-2391, visit www.gsnypenn.org, become a fan of Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways, Inc. on Facebook, or follow @GSNYPENN on Twitter.

M3P Media, LLC, has signed a release for its new publication, Madison County Courier, to be used as prop or set dressing for the highly anticipated movie “Knockout.”

“We are thrilled to be a very small part of a very big movie,” said Mike Bova, publisher of M3P Media, LLC.

According to promoters, the film stars mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano as Mallory Kane, a young, tough, beautiful freelance covert operative. She is hired out by her handler, Kenneth, to various global entities to perform jobs that governments can’t authorize and heads of state would rather not know about. For all her looks and youth, Mallory is still the best in her field, and her skills are in constant demand.

After a mission to rescue a hostage in Barcelona, Kenneth quickly dispatches Mallory on another mission to Dublin. There she partners with another operative, the suave and debonair Paul. When the operation goes awry and Mallory finds she has been double-crossed, she needs to use all of her skills, tricks and abilities to escape an international manhunt, make it back to the United States, protect her family and exact revenge on those that have betrayed her.

According to information on IMDb.com, producers have signed actors Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Ewen McGregor and Channing Tatum, to name a few.

Knockout, which is filming now, is being directed by Steven Soderbergh, who also directed “Erin Brockovich” and “Ocean’s Eleven.”

The movie is expected to be released sometime next year.
