There will be something for everyone — clothing, shoes, small appliances, furniture, knick-knacks, silverware, dishes, toys, Christmas items, noted event chair Flo Korrie. Funds raised support the group’s charitable and civic endeavors in the community.

For 72 years, the Women of Rotary of Greater Utica has supported local charities and agencies. The members raise funds through raffles, sales of wrapping paper, and the annual garage/bake sale. This year, the group has made financial contributions to ARC’s Summer Program, Rescue Mission, Hope House, Food Bank, Mother Marianne’s West Side Kitchen and Neighbor’s Network. In addition, members donate clothing and mittens to those in need. The organization continues its tradition of attending local naturalization ceremonies and distributing United States flags to all newly sworn-in citizens.

“Our efforts are geared to helping the community in which we live,” said Julie Benincasa, president. “The garage and bake sale is one of our bigger fundraisers. We have great deals and sell quality items at very reasonable prices. Support for our sale is also an indirect contribution to the community.”

On Tuesday, May 4, Cate Thiele of the Kirkland Town Library visited the two New Discoveries classrooms at the Clinton Elementary School to interact with the children and read fun, engaging stories.  The visit comes after the “Week of the Young Child” which took place at the end of April and celebrated the agency’s preschool children.

The New Discoveries Learning Center serves both preschool and daycare children ages 3 to 5 years old.  Students at different developmental levels work and learn together in an inclusive preschool setting.  There are various sites across the Mohawk Valley including Barneveld, Chadwicks, Clinton, Rome and Utica.  The preschool and daycare programs are licensed by New York State Department of Education.

All New Discoveries Learning Centers are now accepting fall applications for preschool and daycare children.  To register a child, contact Gineene Comito-Paulson at (315) 798-4006 ext. 266.

Salomon was arrested and charged with Criminal Contempt 2^nd, a Class A Misdemeanor. He was arraigned in the Town of Bridgewater Court and remanded to Oneida County Jail in lieu of $500.00 cash bail or $1000.00 bond. He is to reappear in the Town of Bridgewater Court at a later date.

“We are thrilled to be a very small part of a very big movie,” said Mike Bova, publisher of M3P Media, LLC.

According to promoters, the film stars mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano as Mallory Kane, a young, tough, beautiful freelance covert operative. She is hired out by her handler, Kenneth, to various global entities to perform jobs that governments can’t authorize and heads of state would rather not know about. For all her looks and youth, Mallory is still the best in her field, and her skills are in constant demand.

After a mission to rescue a hostage in Barcelona, Kenneth quickly dispatches Mallory on another mission to Dublin. There she partners with another operative, the suave and debonair Paul. When the operation goes awry and Mallory finds she has been double-crossed, she needs to use all of her skills, tricks and abilities to escape an international manhunt, make it back to the United States, protect her family and exact revenge on those that have betrayed her.

According to information on IMDb.com, producers have signed actors Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Ewen McGregor and Channing Tatum, to name a few.

Knockout, which is filming now, is being directed by Steven Soderbergh, who also directed “Erin Brockovich” and “Ocean’s Eleven.”

The movie is expected to be released sometime next year.

“This was a community-wide effort, and we want everyone to come and celebrate this remarkable achievement with us,” said John Hobika, Jr., the 2009 Campaign Chair.

The event kicks off at 5:00PM and includes great food, lots of recognition, music from Monk Rowe, and a special performance by Danceworks.

(Utica, NY) Upstate Cerebral Palsy recently benefited from the Toys for Tots program, offering gifts to agency children through generous donations and volunteer efforts.

Toys for Tots, a program funded and organized locally by the Herkimer County Detachment #227, Marine Corps League, offered holiday gifts for preschool-age children at the agency’s many sites including Chadwicks, Clinton, Armory, Corasanti, Barneveld, Kernan UPK, and children in the Promise Program.  Therapists, teachers and aides from Upstate Cerebral Palsy selected and wrapped more than 260 presents for the children.

“The Toys for Tots program made it possible for our young children to receive gifts this year,” said William Mullin, director of early childhood family support services at Upstate Cerebral Palsy.  “The program supported us in our efforts to make the lives of our children brighter this holiday season.  The Toys for Tots representatives showed an interest in the children in our program, displaying compassion and generosity and embracing the spirit of giving.”

Toys for Tots is a non-profit public charity organized by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.  Through this program, new, unwrapped toys are collected during October, November and December and distributed as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community.  This is the third year that Upstate Cerebral Palsy children have benefited from Toys for Tots.

On November 6, 2009 at approximately 9:11 A.M., BULLEN was northbound on State Route 8 when she drove off the right side of the roadway, then struck and became lodged on guide wires. The guide wires prevented the vehicle, a 1995 Ford Explorer, from travelling down a steep embankment.

As a result of the investigation BULLEN was arrested for Vehicle and Traffic Law charges of DWAI-Drugs (Misdemeanor), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd Degree (Misdemeanor), Unlicensed Operator and Moved From Lane Unsafely. BULLEN was additionally charged with the Penal Law crime of False Personation (Misdemeanor) after she attempted to pass herself off as her sister. All tickets are returnable November 9, 2009 at 6:00 P.M., in the Town of Paris Court. BULLEN was released to a third party. No injuries resulted from the accident.
