New Amateur Radio Web Site Launches

New Amateur Radio Web Site Launches thumbnail

Caption: The top unit is a receiver only. It just receives signals and does not transmit. Anyone can operate a receiver without the need for a license. This receiver covers the entire radio spectrum up to 2GHz (giga hertz). The bottom unit is a transceiver. It receives and transmits. An Amateur Radio license is required to transmit. This transceiver covers the HF or High Frequency amateur bands and the popular VHF “2 meter” band. Certain radio frequencies are allocated to Amateurs or “Hams” to transmit on. There are three classes of license each with a corresponding technical examination.  Technician, General, and Extra class are the three current license classes.  Each license class brings with it additional amateur privileges. (transmit frequencies). For much more info on Amateur Radio, Phillips highly recommends the American Radio Relay League. www.arrl.org

A new Amateur Radio Web Site for operators in Central New York is now available. www.CNYhams.com is dedicated to the advancement of amateur radio in Central New York. The site offers blogs and technical forums. There’s a place to list gear for sale and upload photos in the equipment brag page or maybe offer your ham biography.

The site lists Ham operator projects and CNY Ham events.

According to Randy Phillips, K2CAZ, Ham operator since 1967, “depending on how you define CNY, that amounts to several thousand Hams.”

For more information, visit www.CNYhams.com.
