Hundreds Gather at Rome Indoor Run/Walk to Support the American Heart Association

(Rome, NY – Feb. 20, 2010) There were 217 walkers and runners that came out to Rome Free Academy Saturday morning to support the American Heart Association at the 8th Annual Rome Indoor Run/Walk sponsored by Rome Memorial Hospital.

Diane Butler, Rome Indoor Event Committee Chairperson, welcomed participants at the opening ceremony.  David McMonagle, Rome Heart Survivor, shared his story with all of the attendees.

Runners and walkers enjoyed three indoor courses on the indoor track or hallway.  Sydney’s Circle provided heart healthy activities and performances for children.  Local vendors’ booths shared heart healthy facts and nutritional information.  Rome Memorial Hospital provided free blood pressure screenings.

This year’s event raised $28,491 and will support research and education for heart disease and stroke.
