Wolanin Conservation Education Day Poster Contest Winner

(Oriskany, NY) Morgan Wolanin, a student at N.A. Walbran Elementary School in Oriskany, received the grand prize packet for winning the 2009 Oneida County Conservation Education Day Poster Contest.  Her entry was selected from hundreds submitted by many local 6th grade students.

Posters were selected for superior presentation of one or more of the conservation ideas presented at Conservation Education Days.  An additional criterion was the content of the caption explaining the idea of the poster.  Secondarily, the artist merit of the poster was considered.

The judges for the contest were the sponsors of Conservation Education Day.  They are Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County, The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, The Federated Sportsmen’s Clubs or Oneida County and local educators.  Additional judges were drawn from the local art community.

The grand prize consisted of a fishing rod and reel, tackle box, an assortment of  hooks, lures and baits, a fishing net, chair and hat donated by Gander Mountain store.

Additional prizes were given to the winners in each participating class.  This consisted of a 1-year subscription to The New York Conservationist magazine.
